The easiest way to have a political voice is to cast a vote. I always vote. We are fortunate enough to be able to vote at the library. Considering that we all have to be on campus, there is no excuse for not voting. Too many individuals fought for us to have a right to vote and I find it unexcusable when those eligible to vote don't. If my 80 year old father, who has a limited education understands this, so should those of us with a higher degree of education. I still can't decide who I will be voting for, but I will be one of the first people voting. That much I know. Besides, I have a great time harassing, in a good natured way, the women manning the polls at the LRC. VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! Remember, it hasn't been that long that women and hispanics/Latinos/Mexicans (I don't know what people like to call themselves, I personally prefer Mexican-American or Hispanic) Make your voice heard people!

I believe that very one who can vote should vote and put into place their rights a US Citizen. There are many places that people can vote and have the right to choose whom they want to elect. It has been very hard decision to make due to not having good enough people to select from. I strongly believe that each person has the right to excercise this privillage that we have and try to make a difference in our country.
SO VERY ONE PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEE GO AND VOTE!

Yes, I hope every one does take the time to vote in November. And I ask of all to please vote smart.I hear from a lot of people they will vote for a candidate just because they do not like the other choice or because they are still upset about them not picking their preferred choice for VP. We all need to get over these petty biases and be responsible adults and make the right choice, and only you know who that is!

Voting isn’t just a privilege, it’s a responsibility. It is your responsibility as an American voter to research your candidates. How many American citizens actually research the presidential candidates much less research anything for knowledge? Don’t just listen to the layman on the streets – most of them have an 8th grade reading level; this is very sad for America. In fact, most Americans can’t even read the local newspapers which are written on an 8th grade reading level. I find it heart sickening that America as a “Super Power” has a worse educational system than most European countries. As a “Super Power,” we are actually very stupid because most European students know more about our history and are more educated than most Americans. You can ask the average American on the streets who wrote the constitution of the United States of America and the majority cannot answer that question. Yet, the person who applies for citizenship in this country must know that answer. I feel there is no excuse for ignorance or stupidity since we have so much access to the internet and other informational sources. So you say to yourself…I am an American citizen and I have the right to vote. What are you voting for? You may reply, I am a Democrat or I am a Republican. I vote for my party. Do you even know what that means? Do you even understand what that meant in the days of old compared to the days now? Are you knowledgeable about the current events of the world? Do you keep up with politics? I implore you to research your presidential candidates and gain as much information on their backgrounds as you can before you vote. You are obviously reading this. There is no excuse for you not to Google or U-Tube actual talks and testimonies from people who know the 2 presidential candidates and what they represent. I urge you strongly to check out this website:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyspCRmJv7w&feature=related There is so much more that you can learn about the candidates for presidency that you might want to hear first hand from people that know them. In a final note, I just want to say that this nation was created for the people and by the people - why do you want to create a monster sooooo big that it will one day collapse on you? Why do you want to give the government all the power (you leftist-liberalist)? Why don’t you as American citizens stand up and say we want control and control of how our tax dollars are spent? Do you want a Marxist (like Obama’s mamma) government? Do you want an Islamic government (like the terrorist we are fighting – that tried to destroy our economic structure on Sept. 11th)? If you said yes, then you aren’t an American (freedom and democracy) and you vote for Satan-Obama. Research you candidates – BE A RESPONSIBLE VOTER.
P.S. McCain is for people with disabilities – He has a few himself (Post traumatic stress disorder and other disabilities from the war) – He will support PWD and so will Palin with a child with a disaibility.

Hey Rosie - yeah go vote - what the heck are you voting for? The right to vote? The reason the people that have a right to vote don't vote is because they are either stupid or ignorant. Most voters are basically stupid. Ignorance is when you don't have the knowledge. Stupidity is when you have the knowledge but still choose to be stupid because of prejudice or just basic stupidity. Limited educated people should not be allowed to vote because of basic stupidity. Who cares about this stupid color of skin. We are human beings - Homeo - Sapiens - Sapiens - get a crip! If I cut you, you will bleed - regardless of skin color. Next U.S. Census comes around, I will check - Other - Homosapiensapien. - I am I human being.

I found your response to be very offensive. Not only did you insult my father, but I feel you do not have a clear understanding of the experiences of many minorities. My father may have a limited education, but he is extremely intelligent and well informed. I do not equate stupidity or intelligence with the degree of formal education a person possesses. Furthermore, I strongly disagree that individuals who have a limited education should not be allowed to vote. How many groups of people would be rendered silent and invisible by denying them the vote? I will reiterate my sentiment that a limited education should not be equated with stupidity. It can easily be argued that many well educated people are quite ignorant. The hope is that as many of us become better educated, we will also be less ignorant of the issues affecting our respective communities and the world at large.

I would like to suggest you read Bordelands/La Frontera by Gloria Anzaldua. In her book she articulates many of the experiences Mexican Americans living in the border have had to contend with. I suppose as a member of the majority, you may feel the need to minimize the experiences of racial/ethnic minorities as insignificant by proclaiming we are all human beings. If only it were that simple.

Well, I think voting is very important and one of the few ways people can make their voice heard. I also believed that voting is a right as well as a personal choice no matter what. Every person has the right to have an opinion and a choice. And it is my personal opinion that the present elections need to be taken very serious, especially considering the economy and the future possibilities in regard to it. I wish I could be part of the elections, but due to the fact that am not a US citizen I can’t. But even in my case I still have an opinion because I live here. So people go out and vote!!!!!!

Obama is Satan... wow.. i guess you believe he is the Antichrist or something too lol. It is amazing how sometimes the more education a person acquires the more ignorant they become. Yes i have done my research on Obama with legitimate sources of information, which prove the conspiracies on obama to be incorrect. The interesting part about this is that i am a republican and those comments on obama being Satan and the certain criteria people should have to vote just seriously misrepresents republican mentality. IT makes the individual who said them portray the image of some paranoid confederate waiting to bring out the confederate flag to justify there mis informed views about a person. Lets quit the low blows and start reviving the American spirit with whoever ends up in office and push forward without all the barriers.

. Voting is important. Many people are thinking of the presidential election, but forget that they will also be voting for contested congressional and state races. I’ve heard people comment that they will not vote since the electoral college will ultimately decide who will be our next president, but what about all the other important races where your vote has a greater impact? I know that I can’t wait for the presidential elections to be over with. Maybe I’ll toss a coin and make my decision based on heads or tails. I think both candidates have their pros and cons so it is hard to make a decision. I agree with Marianna and Rosie that it is important to vote. I have a few more days or I’ll have to wait ‘til Nov 4. So to echo the sentiments of others, I will go vote. It is important and a privilege I feel I need to exercise. And I will be making an informed and educated decision even if I decide by tossing a coin. I feel I know what both candidates are about or at least what they want us to think they are about.

Voting is something that should always be on top of our list of things to do. Because if we don't start expressing our decisions now that we are in college and have a fresh mindset about how the government should be, then our voices will never be heard.

Hey Rosie,
Lighten up and don’t take it so personally. Let me reiterate…voting isn’t just a privilege, it’s a responsibility. The point is that most Americans are ignorant of who or what they are voting for. Look up the stats for yourself. My point is to be an informed American citizen and then go vote. I said nothing about stupidity or ignorance being equated with the level of education. You also don’t know me to label me a member of the majority –how very wrong you are. I have a triple minority status along with a high sensitivity towards the majority which are the minority. Lol Once again it would be that “simple” if people would rearrange their way of thinking and view one another as human beings and not label one another or categorize one another by race, ethnicity, or the color of one’s skin. We discussed these issues in person so I believe my point was made. No further comments on this subject but it was fun anyway.

Hey Mr. Rey,
I stand my ground. Hussein Obama is a liar and he is evil – Satan’s disciple. He is pro-abortion and pro-gay marriages. Is that of God or Satan? I don’t know about you but I value life and I stand by America as being One Nation Under God. Those of us that believe in God stand by His Word. The Islamic religion is the fastest growing religion in the world and Obama is a follower of the Islamic religion. There is not an Obama conspiracy. Facts are facts. Obama is hiding his background as is evident from sealed records (i.e birth certificate, childhood education, college affiliations, college records, social organizations, his relatives, and the list goes on). If you were truly a Republican then you would not be so brainwashed by the media whom are biased towards Obama; they are Liberal-Leftists. You made a statement about the Confederate nonsense – that’s just your way of thinking – maybe you need to rearrange your way of thinking and keep researching before you vote. You want to revive the American spirit? Then, vote for the president who won’t turn this country into a “spread the wealth country”. Mind you, we don’t have much of a choice in candidates but at least vote for the lesser of the two evils (not that McCain is evil like Obama). Lol Peace out brother and put down your confederate flag nonsense.

Please pardon me before I state this, but most of you people are ill-informed and ignorant of the facts with respect to Barack Obama. He, combined with his wife (hideous!!!!) are the anti-Christ. He has a "great sounding" voice, but he is full of double-speak and plans that can never ever be accomplished. He is no John Kennedy or Martin Luther King though he thinks he is. He is just bad news... period. He would destroy our country if allowed to.

Myself and many of our friends are voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin. We decided on this very early-on, but after the two conventions and their respective content we were absolutely convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Sarah Palin rocks as a VP candidate. John McCain is deserving of the presidency. They are true Americans with the morality and ideals that will serve this nation well in the next eight years. Obama never served his country... he has only served himself.

We have found that the ignorant, the corrupt, the lawless, the G-dless, the low-life, and the undesireables of the world are drawn to Obama. The lawless, evil and despotic rulers of Venezuela and Iran want Obama to win. You have to ask yourself why.

The Obamas and their followers are the "Legion" (of Hell). I know this may sound overtly biblical... but it seems overtly fitting. Obama must not be allowed to run this country.

It is my hope that G-d will intervene and help us to help McCain defeat the fraud Obama.

I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but with respect to others. Maybe sometimes we do not want to offend other individuals but always remember politics is a very touchy subject and sometimes we do see eye to eye on each matter. Anyways, do not forget to cast your vote because every vote counts and that ONE can make the difference. Remember we are privledged to be able to vote and have our voices heard in this country (all races, young or old!). Igarza

Placing your vote is actually like submitting your right to voice your opinion. If you don't vote then you don't have the right to complain about anything that the government is doing to the economy now a days. That is why we say that it is very important for everyone to vote. Voice your opinion and get off your butts and vote!

Well eveyone who is eligiable to vote should register and do their duty as U.S citizens. This presidential election has been intense. There are many important issues that need to be address in our country. Everyone should place their vote so that the best candidate wins.

Voting is very important. Every person who is eligible to vote should go and vote. In the beginning I wouldn't vote but have been doing so for the past couple years. I feel it is extremely important for everyone to vote. Some people may think that their vote does not count but it really does. Everyones vote counts and makes a difference. During election time people get crazy and at the same time excited. A lot of people are at the corner of busy streets holding up signs and shouting the name of the candidate they want to win. Election time is very fun and it makes many people anxious simply for the fact waiting to find out who will win.

Right to vote
Voting is a privilege to everyone. Working for a center that encourages people with disabilities to register and cast their vote is something I take pride in doing. I educate the Disability population that the disability world is the largest minority in the United States and by registering and casting our vote together as a minority group can bring big change to individuals with disabilities. There are several programs for individuals with disabilities that have waiting lists For example CLASS and CBA programs. I think that voting can bring change to the waiting list for these types of programs here in the United States. I am democratic but with enough support by our democratic disability minority group we can bring change to more and better programs to benefit the disability world. I believe that no individual with a disability should have to be institutionalized and have the right to live in community based settings. It takes more money to care for an individual in an institution than in the community. Therefore get out and vote and let’s change the world one vote at a time.

The people have spoken. The votes have been cast. My comments are to Diana and Rosie and a few others.

Voting is a privilege and a right. My husband was born and raised in Mexico and is now a very proud naturalized citizen of the U.S. He together with hundreds of immigrants who are now citizens went out door to door and encouraged people to vote - not for any specific party or person - just VOTE. In spite of his 3rd grade education, he watched and read everything he could, and then he studied and discussed the issues. He voted early and called and reminded friends and family members to vote. It was reported that through efforts such as this, the percentage of registered voters increased and the number of voters went to an all-time high of 70% for the Valley. Some of those people may have had a limited education, but they were not stupid. They used their privilege and opportunity and cast their votes.

Yes, we are afforded freedom of speech and are entitled to our opinions, but can we at least agree to disagree in a more civil manner. If we in fact are educated people, please let us not rant and rave as we express our thoughts.

We have an opportunity to educate others by setting an example. One way to do this is to take care to think before we speak (or write).
Another way is take action to correct injustices we see around us. Thank God, for the freedom to vote and to speak our minds.
