NRA Urging Calls to Congress to Retain VR and IL Dollars

The National Rehabilitation Association is urging its membership and other interested individuals and groups to contact their Congressional Representatives to urge support for Ovcational Rehabilitation and Independent Living money currently in the Stimulus package. The NRA's Washington Wire reports, "The Senate Conferees are: Senators Harry Reid (D.NV.); Senator Chuck Grassley (R.IA.); Senator Daniel Inouye (D.HI.); Senator Thad Cochran (R.MS.) and Senator Max Baucus (D.MT.) House Conferees include: Congressman Dave Obey (D.WI.); Congressman Henry Waxman (D.CA.); Congressman Charles Rangel (D.N.Y.); Congressman Jim Oberstar (D.MN.); Congressman JERRY Lewis (R.CA.) and Congressman David Camp (R.MN.)".
NRA further urges, "Call your Senators and Congresspersons, as well as the Senators and Congresspersons immediately listed above, who comprise the Conference Committee, and advise them that the additional funding for VR is critical to the continuation of securing and retaining employment and community living for individuals with disabilities who want to work."

When there is free money to given, they should really consider other options besides the usual. I am glad they are at least trying to meet and discuss the matter. We live in a free nation and if people are here to work, we should let them. There are many citizens here who are here to make a living and have a life for themselves and their family. Why should we exclude others from that opportunity? People with disablities are just like anyone else in the work force, it doesn't cost much to help accomodate for them. Many just want to live their life without any trouble or complications. I hope they get the money they deserve, if people want to work let them work, its their right.

This is a great idea for them to try to get together to try to make a difference to find some way to help these people. People should follow in these foot steps and should call to support this cause the more the merrier. This is a very critical time, this money is going towards people who want to be independent and who want to continue working and they should be allowed to. No one should try to stop them instead of trying to stop them they need to turn it around and try to help these people who want to be independent and make something of themselves and I think that is everyone's goal to make something of their lives and to be able to live a happy and prosperis life. So all the help that is given is appreciated.

I do agree with Vitoria and Hernandaz, about people with disability wanting to be in the work force,People with disablities are just like anyone else, according to Hernandaz "it doesn't cost much to help accomodate them. Many just want to live their life without any trouble or complications. I hope they get the money they deserve, if people want to work let them work, its their right". This people should be given same right like every one.

Many people with disabilities are or once were prime support for their family, reason being to why so many families with a person with a disability are low income. I think that these people should have the same right to support their family just like any prime supporter of thier family would. If race discrimination is forbidden in the workforce why not discrimination against people with disabilities? Oppertunity should be given to everyone that is the reason why i think more money should be given to help people with disabilities.

We should stop telling people to go out there and speak up on somebody else's behalf. It is on everybody's hand either to make a difference or not. its time to act and stop just giving opinions and expecting other people do the job. We know the complicated it is for people with disabilities to find a job and keep it, so why not take the issue on our hands and make the call and speak up!!

I think that what those Congress members are doing is very inmportant. Getting your word out there will help people with disablities get money they deserve. Just like any other group they need to stand up and get there word out to Congress so they can get a piece of the stimulus bill just like Obama has promised.

I hope that Congress will listen to our voices to keep the VR and IL money in the stimulus checks. Without these types of monies to support the VR and IL programs people with disabilities will have trouble to find gainful employment. People with disabilities can live independently and perform occupational functions in a work setting, they do have abilities. Hopefully Congress will consider support the Vocational Rehabilitation and Independent Living to help support people with disabilities.

I don't understand why we would have to go to this extent to continue helping people with disabilities find jobs have somewhere to live. They are people!! There are places to help people without disabilites find jobs so why wouldn't there be one for people with disabilities. Yes it does take a little more time to find a job for them but they are people and deserve the same opportunities as everyone else.

I think what the National Rehabilitation Association is doing right in advising its memberships and groups that advocating for the rights of people with disabilities to contact the congressmen that represent them to accelerate the disbursement of the money in the stimulus package assigned for Vocational Rehabilitation and Independent living programs. If the money has already been approved by congress then the programs or institutions approved to receive funds have the right to urge its disbursement. With international companies and banks submitting petitions to the government for financial assistance the funding for the Vocational Rehabilitation and Independent living program could be put on jeopardy.
