I'm pleased to be informed that the federal government is making an attempt to make the dissemination of information regarding disability policy more widespread. It is important for people to be educated to the rights individuals with disabilities possess. It is also great importance individuals gain a better understanding of individuals with disabilities to remove bias, prejudice, discrimination, and intolerance.

This is excellent! I can get behind an administration that is transparent about their proceedings and allow those with a truly vested interest to listen in. I may actually be able to listen live during work. Shh!!!

I was curious to find out how many groups, organizations, individuals have received and forward the information of "Monthly Disability Calls". Wow! It is all over the internet. I really enjoyed seeing that many organizations have even posted other blogs, comments, and even discussions on facebook with regards to monthly disability calls. I firmly agree with my colleagues that, not only is this very important to persons with disabilities, but a positive outreach to all of us advocations for Persons with disabilities.

I am happy to see that something like this is available for everyone. This is especially beneficial for disability advocates, because this will keep us informed about all the newest issues surrounding individuals with disabilities. This is also great for the individuals with disabilities themselves, because it will also keep them informed about all the latest issues. Individuals without disabilities should look into this because they too can see what new changes are being made to better accommodate individuals with disabilities. I am so excited to see that we have supportive advocates making a great effort for individuals with disabilities in the government.

This is great. I am glad to see this happening from the top. It not only educates and informs people, it also sends a message about the importance of staying educated and informed regarding latest news and updates. I'm also glad to see that the calls will include people that can be contacted for assistance.

Outstanding idea by our current administration. Always good to know that PWD will have direct contact with the federal government. There so many issues surrounding PWD that communicating directly with federal official will keep everyone up to date on public policy. It is evident that this administration has taken a more proactive approach in how it communicates with the general population, and now that it has reached out to PWD is a much needed implementation.

Disability Calls sounds like a good idea for people who want to find out more information regarding people with disabilities. From a person who works with individual with Mental retardation and their family this would be a good network so they can find out information and stay update with the new laws and regulation. Hopefully the government will employ individual with disabilities to make it a common ground and show that they do not discriminate against any race or disability. It is important for the government to continue advocating and providing more information and resource for both family and individuals with disabilities. It’s not easy for first time parent who have just learned that their children will have some kind of disability and not have somewhere to find answers. I guess the government finally came to their senses and start the disability calls.

Cool. This may be beneficial for advocates and professionals in all areas of the country to be able to network and perhaps collaborate with each other to promote awareness of specific issues. I can see many good things coming out of this. It’s great to keep open lines of communication. We sometimes read text and tend to perceive things the way we want to and sometimes take things out of context when in reality it may have been a simple statement. It’s neat to see that live captioning is also available. What didn’t they think of? Like Matile said, publishing these updates would also be a good thing to do, for reference and other purposes. As social networking is becoming more and more popular each day, it is important to capitalize on every opportunity we see to help inform every one of current issues/events that impact people with disabilities. Because this is open to the public, these disability calls may give others a new perspective of the obstacles P.W.D are facing everyday.

This is a positive step the federal government has taken that will help in further educating the public about disability. I believe these calls will strengthen the population of people with disabilities in the US. As corny as it may sound, like the common saying goes ‘knowledge is power.’ A greater number of people with disabilities, their loved ones and professionals will have easier access to news in respect to disability issues happening at the federal level. This new resource should be readily used so that the government can perceive some positive feedback by mean of numbers and keep this resource available so long as it is being utilized. It would probably be useful to issue out some surveys a few months down the road in order to gage the effectiveness of the services, necessary improvements or any other pertinent information that would improve the service. It would be interesting to see how the service will be improved in the future, but this is a great start.

This is indeed a great initiative, and I hope many people participate and show support. The best decisions on behalf of people with IDDs should come from well informed people who care for them and worry about their well-being through their lifetime.
I think that their needs, whether academic, emotional, or the ones having to do with independent skills should be addressed when they are children. People with IDDs will be more likely to lead potentially independent and productive lives if when young, they are taught whatever they need to become productive and able to live on their own. Family is not always going to be there for them, especially their parents, so they need to have supportive families and schools when they are young to help them be successful in life, again, within their abilities.

Awesome! Just another step to advocate and educate. It's definitely great that our current administration is looking into this and being proactive about it. The nation's everyday Joe should be made aware of such topics and it never does hurt to have organizations have the opportunity to chime in and keep up to date.

This is great!! It's important for our society to be aware of the new laws that are being made regarding disability. But most importantly it's great for people with disability to know the help they can receive. We need to be educated regarding our rights and laws.

I am very glad to see that the federal government is getting highly involved in this topic. In think is a very good opportunity for people to get informed with accurate information. This type of programs will increase the awareness and will assist people in resolving certain concerns depending on their interests. I also believe that it is a good opportunity for employers to close the gap with disability.

I just received information about the White House Disability Calls but am puzzled to learn that this is "off the record" and "not for press purposes."

If the White House wants to be more transparent, why bar the press? The press' goal is to get news and information out there, so why not use them?
