Savage Disability Hate Speech

21 July 2008
PRNewswire-US Newswire (WASHINGTON)—Talk Radio Network (http://www.talkradionetwork.com/) must fire host Michael Savage (http://michaelsavage.wnd.com/), says ADA Watch and the National Coalition for Disability Rights. Savage has once again attacked people with disabilities, calling children with autism frauds and brats. The outrage is just the latest in a long string of attacks on people with disabilities and the disability community disguised as commentary or comedy. For example, Savage developed a “comedy” routine about employees with disabilities at a café, saying they drool and put feces in food. Savage has also labeled members of the disability rights community “The Wheelchair Mafia”.

COMMENT: MSNBC fired Savage in 2003 for his vicious anti-gay comments, but Savage has continued to call gay-rights groups the “Homosexual Mafia”. Apparently, Savage isn’t clever enough to change his shtick, since he frames disability rights groups in the same way. Go back far enough, and you’ll see that Savage is neither clever nor original. He simply finds new groups to hate and then uses an “insert-group-name-here” approach. Yes, Talk Radio Network needs to fire him. But the 350+ radio stations playing him in syndication also need to drop his program, and listeners (heads up, UltraCons) need to tune out, fast.

This article just proves to the world of the existence of ignorant, mean people. Michael Savage must be a very lonely, pathetic man if he has to pick a group of people, that he has chosen as his flavor of the month to make fun of.
I never understood how some one like Michael Savage can comment on a group as a whole and label them all the same.
I am sure he knows individuals that have disabilities but still spews out his hurtful rhetoric.
And I also realize he does all this for ratings. The main thing to do is not listen to him and especially not call his show to comment on his words. This is the exact reaction he is looking to get out of the public.
Eventually he will run out of people to rant to and he will eventually shut up.
And if we really want to take a stance on people like Michael Savage, we need to voice our concerns on the people that give him the air time. If we protest loud enough and show them we will not stand for that kind of cruelty and mindless talk it will stop.

This article is just defines a horrible man. Michael Savage has no love or compassion for anyone other than himself. I can't believe they way he can judge people with out even knowing the person. Hes obviously a guy that needs attention and gets it by saying the wrong things. Soon he will speak his point to the wrong person that will do something about it. Until then this man is not considered to be a man in my book, hes a rude and ignorant person that will be amazed how much his hurtful words will affect him later. JenniferGarces

While many people will advocate that under the Freedom of Speech amendment,Savage has the right to say whatever he chooses with freedom comes responsibility. It is a travesty that there are those that feel that if we poke fun and laugh at others who are different it makes them better than the people they are demeaning. On the contrary, it only provides evidence of the speakers lack of self-confidence and perhaps fear of anyone he does not understand or relate to. There is also the idea that if we learn to laugh about difficult situations it lightens things up and makes it easier to live with these things.
I agree with Marilync that Mr. Savage must be a very lonely man. How sad would it be that he become part of the group of people that he laughs and pokes fun at through illness or injury, but sometimes people like him cannot understand other peoples situations until they literally walk in their shoes or sit in their wheelchairs.
Rather then just not listening to the stations that carry his message, we need to send communications and complaints to the managers that allow this to continue.

It's so sad that Michael Savage has to pick on people with disabilities and on gay rights supporters. Ignorant people will one day go through something like this and hopefully they bite their tongues when they do.
