Wikis as Disability Resources

ORIGINAL-- Wikis can be a great way to build disability and rehabilitation resources. A wiki is a collection of interlinked web pages and documents using server software to allow users to create, share, and edit content in a collaborative format.[1] Wikis are information databases, where users can work collaboratively, authoring new content, editing each other’s content through common web browsers, and linking to internal and external resources and data, all while tracking all the changes.[2]

Several disability-specific wikis are available such as Disability Wikia, a wiki focusing on general issues. Disability 911 is organized around emergency preparation for people with disabilities. AbilityNet uses a wiki to build and disseminate content about assistive technology and related topics. Wikipedia has many wikis related to disability, rehabilitation, and related topics, such as rehabilitation counseling and rehabilitation engineering.

I think this is so cool. I use Wikipedia for a lot of things and it is good to know that these websites exist. The internet has become a major tool in this day and age and Wiki's make people's lives easier. It is a good resource tool and I think more people should know about it.

This is good information to have around if you need any information what so ever you have a place to go but I mean you do need to recheck the information to make sure if it is correct. Since it is a website that anyone change information. All in all it could be very useful.

I personally use Wikipedia. In fact, I use it a lot. Which is why I think sites that have the Wikipedia concent intergrated with disabilities issues is great. Nowadays, many people are looking for ways to get their information fast, and what better way than through this. Also, if there are websites that help people with disabilities to get the resources they need, its creates a better way to send needed information. Not only that, but through the use of these websites we could educate the general public and advocate.

I think this is good information. Nowadays people are using computers for almost everything. We access computer to read the news, to get information about medications, illnesses, movies, restaurants, almost everything.
It is a good tool, obtaining information about availability of resources not only for people with disabilities but for the general public.

Wikipedia is my best friend. I wiki almost everything. Although anyone can add inforamtion to it, I use it as a guide because it is much easier to understand and its links are always helpful. I think it is really cool that Wiki is letting people know that this also helps PWD with resources to facilitate their search and sources of info.

As a student in the Rehab Program one of our assignments was to post on wiki. At first I thought this assignment would be hard, but it was acutually very interesting and addicting. Although information attained from wiki should be further researched on other websites. " Not trying to offend anyone!"
